DESCRIPTION:

The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent is entrusted with the duties of collaborating

with the Golf Course Superintendent in performing the duties of golf course operations

and maintenance. The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent will help foster an

environment of fun and relaxation while maintaining a top-level golfing experience for

all. Will also assist in delegating assignments, training, educating, and overseeing

maintenance staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and operation, irrigation operations,
disease scouting and monitoring fertilizer and fungicide applications.
  • Preparation/seeding/sodding, preparation of golf course for daily play, general
grounds landscaping and upkeep, small project supervision, training of personnel

as deemed by the superintendent.

  • Maintain shop to keep clean and tidy to avoid any accidents.
  • Responsible for assisting with all phases of golf maintenance and agronomic
operations, cost controls and personnel.
  • Works closely with, advises and coordinates with the Superintendent on any
issues related to golf course maintenance.
  • Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
  • Shall be required to read, implement, and adhere to all NWCR Policies and

Procedures, LVD Gaming Ordinance, Tribal/State Gaming Compact, NIGC

Minimum Internal Control Standards, Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, LVD

Tribal Internal Control Standards, Title 31 Minimum Internal Control Standards,

NWCR Casino Employee Handbook, Golf Course Department Policy and

Procedure Manual.
  • Must provide excellent service to guests while ensuring safety for all by following and

enforcing golf course rules and regulations.

  • Must be able to work independently and be an excellent problem solver.
  • Administers and enforces all regulations of policies for staff.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees,
and wetlands on the facility grounds.
  • Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement,
spraying, pruning, and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant

beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.

  • Assist with the creation of a detailed annual plan for the various property levels
and the designated landscaping areas, including rotational design to provide the

facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting, and pleasant atmosphere.

  • Helps to manage an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation system
and provide monthly reporting on pond retention, wells, and other water source

usage.

  • Assist with supervising and retaining staff, conducting employee performance
evaluations, joining interviews, and conducting disciplinary action.
  • Supervise and participate in the application and recording of chemical
applications (fertilizers, pesticides) on the grounds in compliance with all tribal,

local, and federal regulations.

  • Assists with supervising and controlling all maintenance expenses associated with
Golf Course operation including timecards, supplies, equipment, chemicals, and

fertilizers.

  • Submits orders for parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Schedule course maintenance around member play and events to maximize
efficiency and minimize disruption to players.
  • Coordinate winter maintenance as necessary.
  • Must be aware of and follow all relevant EPHS standards, attend all NWCR
Safety Committee meetings and all LVD Golf Course Work group meetings.
  • Any like duties as assigned by management.
  • To remain in compliance with Casino Regulatory policies and procedures,

employees are required to attend all necessary meetings and trainings facilitated

by Management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree in Agronomy or turf grass related studies, or a
minimum of 2 years experience in golf course maintenance.
  • Requires basic knowledge in soils, turf grass management practices, general
disease identification and control, fertilizer analysis and the use of, practical

understanding and operation of automated irrigation systems.

  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf
course maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
  • Willing to attend seminars, or educational training pertinent to golf maintenance
and Resort operations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Required to participate in continued education in golf course maintenance and
various facets thereof.
  • Requires understanding of federal, state, and local laws governing operations.
  • Required to obtain state certification of licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Responsible for the training, supervision, scheduling, and development of all
Department Team members.
  • To remain in compliance with Casino Regulatory policies and procedures,
employees are required to attend all necessary meetings and trainings facilitated

by Management.

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass background, drug-screen and all other pre-employment
obligations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Golf Course Management.
  • Knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, fairways and roughs.
  • Ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns and
construct tees and/or greens.

PHYSCIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds
and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception,
and ability to focus.
